My dear Clergy, Religious and beloved People of God,
Archdiocesan Post-Synodal Bulletin No:1
Happy New Year and Peace be with you all! God has blessed us with a brand New Year and it is the second in our Ten-year Strategic Pastoral Development plan (2009-2018). As part of this plan, we celebrated our Second Synod February 15 to 20, 2009. The Acts of the Second Synod of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra were officially promulgated May 31, the Feast of Pentecost and publicly launched on August 22, 2009.
Since then, two main activities have been taking place in connection with these Acts, namely;
1. making the Acts available for individual and parish community study towards implementation in the coming years; and the
2. initial official study sessions of the Acts by
- Archdiocesan College of Consultors
- Archdiocesan Council of Priests
- All Priests and Religious in the Archdiocese
- All Synod Delegates: Priests, Religious and Laity.
In addition, on my return from the Second Special Assembly for Africa of the Synod of Bishops in Rome last October, I presented you with a fairly long report on it and its relevance for our own Strategic Development Plan, while the universal Church awaits the Post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI as has been the practice in the Church.
This year, 2010, for our Archdiocese, is to start the implementation of the Acts. This requires putting in place the Archdiocesan Synodal Implementation and Monitoring Committee for the way forward.This Committee would require certain Archdiocesan officials.
Pursuant to the above formation of the Committee, and following the Synodal recommendations, the Archdiocese is now made up of six Deaneries, namely;
1.Tema-Battor 4. Kaneshie
2.Osu 5. Kpehe
3.Madina 6. Mamprobi.
I am happy to inform you dearly beloved of the Archdiocese that the following priests have been elected Deans and I hereby appoint them Deans and ex officio members of the soon-to-be-elected Archdiocesan Council of Priests. They are Very Rev. Frs:
- Frederick AGYEMANG – Tema-Battor
- Blaise Bobi ATTACHIE – Osu
- Anthony Richard OPONG - Madina
- Samuel FILTON-MENSAH - Mamprobi
- Johannes MINTAH-MENSAH - Kaneshie
- Benjamin OHENE – Kpehe.
Let me also take this opportunity to congratulate our brothers and welcome them into the Archdiocesan Council of Priests. I appeal to you, dear Deans, to continue the work started by your predecessors and fellow priests in the recent past with regards to the sale, propagation and study of the Acts, and please help with the coming elections to the new Archdiocesan Council of Priests.
Finally, let me now call on all, Laity, Religious and Clergy, to study our Acts as we take up the task of “renewing our Church and fulfilling our vocation and mission in the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra in preparation for the year 2018”, the 125th Anniversary of the Catholic Church in Accra. Let us also publicise the Compendium of the Catholic Catechism, together with Acts, the two legs on which our post-synodal renewal should move. Both documents are available in the Bursar’s Office @ Ghana Cedi 1.00 (one Cedi) each.
This is the first of a series of post-synodal bulletins to come from my office. Wishing you and our Archdiocese God’s choicest blessings, let me repeat our Strategic Development Plan motto: Church:One Family! Church:Holy Family!! Church:Catholic Family!!! Church:Apostolic Family!!!! Church:Family of God!!!!!
Your father in the Spirit,
Signed
Most Rev. Charles G. PALMER-BUCKLE,
Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra.
